Andrew Carnegie

· Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25th, 1835 in Scotland.
· Immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1848 with his family in search of a better life.
· Got his first job as a telegraph carrier in 1850 for $2.50 a week.
· He met Thomas Scott who taught him how to invest wisely and allowed him to gain the money he needed to start his great empire.
· He paid $850 to a man to take his place in the Civil War.
· Created his steel industry off of the Besser process which made high quality, and valuable, steel.
· He died on August 11, 1919, in Lenox, Massachusetts, of bronchial pneumonia.
